Description

206 Slow Hardener

206 Slow Hardener® is a low-viscosity epoxy curing agent. When combined with 105 Resin in a five-part resin to one-part hardener ratio, the cured resin/hardener mixture yields a rigid, high-strength, moisture-resistant solid with excellent bonding and coating properties.Recommended room temperature range: 15 – 30°C.

Not intended for clear coating.

206 is used in a majority of situations such as general Bonding, fabric application and barrier coating, It is formulated to perform at moderate temperatures and to produce a rapid cure that develops its physical properties quickly at room temperature.

Pot life at 72°F (22°C): 20 to 25 minutes
Cure to a solid state: 10 to 15 hours
Cure to maximum strength: 1 to 4 days
Minimum recommended temperature: 60°F (16°C)

Estimating epoxy quantity and coverage

For a sealer coat, figure 40 square feet per pound of mixed material. For a typical “flow coat” over a sealed surface, about 1/8″ thick, figure 0.75 pounds per square foot (a Group size A 105 Resin/207 Special Clear Hardener weighs 3.11 lb). Use this to estimate how much to buy and to mix depending on the desired thickness and the area to be covered.

For best clear finish applications, use 207 Special Clear Hardener with 105 Resin. Warm the resin and hardener before dispensing to about 80°F to reduce viscosity.

If Mini-Pumps pump too slowly, you can mix the epoxy by volume. Refer to the hardener label for the correct volume mix ratio. When working with a large quantity of mixed epoxy, keep in mind the shorter pot life and risk of exotherm. Use a slower hardener, preferably 207 Special Clear Hardener.—From Table Top Applications by J.R. Watson, Epoxyworks #22
